Day trip to Wales
Dovie and I decided to be tourists again on Saturday and went somewhere new....Cardiff, Wales. It was only a 2 hour train ride from London, so easily can be there and back in one day (train travel is the best!).
While in Cardiff, we went to two places: Cardiff Castle and Cardiff Bay. Lots of funny stories as usual when we travel, but the one the blog about is our time in the castle. Upon arriving, we were told we HAD to tour the castle with a guided tour, no self tours, and the next one available was at 3 pm (it was 1 pm at the time). We decided we had no choice and wasted some time shopping, but were told to return early because there was about an hours worth of things to see and do in the castle before the tour that we could do on our own. So we returned at 2 pm, ready to roam the grounds, and were then told we had to watch an 8 minute video in order to collect our walking tour guide handset. So we did and OH MY GOSH....what?? That is the only reaction we had. The video made NO sense and we were left speechless...no words could describe the video and Dovie and I both left knowing we would never get those 8 minutes back ever in our life! You could SO tell that the entire process was new to the castle and Dovie decided we had to find out for sure before we left. So in the gift shop we asked and found out that this new process only started in April...bless all the castle staff, but it must be changed! The castle was beautiful on the inside and worth the wait for the tour, but I would say of all the castles I have visited since moving to England, the entire experience was my least favorite. One of the local traditional crafts in Wales is the Lovespoon, so we had to get one of these! I decided on one that has a heart and a horseshoe, symbols that mean steadfast love and good luck respectively.

Very cool! Those are some great pictures with the mood-setting clouds in the background. But I have to ask....is that a football stadium next door?
