May Bank Holiday sighting....
Last week was the mayoral election for London. It was projected to be a very close race, and lived up to it all the way to the end. London has only had a mayor since 2000 and the office has only been held by one person. The race was finally called late Friday night and the results showed that London finally has a new mayor! Now, the story could be told in much more detail if I wanted, but the point of my blog is not to bore you with political details.
It just happened that Monday was a bank holiday and therefore I was NO where near work. A few of us decided to enjoy a beautiful day in London (only the second one this spring, if you can call it spring!) and go to a pub on a boat on the river. After a few drinks, we were in need of food and decided to walk up to Trafulgar Square to the Texas Embassy (it was Cinco de Mayo yesterday and we did celebrate all the way over here!). We were waiting to cross the street into the square, when from around the corner came the new mayor of London on his bike in his suit! I couldn't get my camera out fast enough, but if I had, my picture would have looked something like this-
Yes, thats him, the new mayor of London, Boris Johnson. Can't beileve we saw him after his first day in office. Of course not many people recognised him being that we were in tourism central, but we shouted out to him to say hello!
